
Jazmine Sullivan was born and brought up at home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam her mother is an ex-backup singer at Philadelphia International Records. In the year she turned 5 of age, her dad landed in the role of curator of The city's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family was able to move into the mansion's historical site. In 2005, a Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts graduated, she is a major in the field of vocal music. Sullivan began singing as a contralto with the kids' choir, and then shortly after, she was a part of the adult choir. Sullivan was not exposed to secular music. She recalls that she was singing in solos in the church, when someone recommended signing her on an evangelical label, however she wasn't ready for the mission. After that, McDonald's held a contest for kids in big cities. I was able to sing "Accept What God Allows" in the show Showtime at the Apollo. And the crowd responded very well. She performed alongside Stevie Wonder at his grandson's birthday celebration at thirteen. Sullivan was first signed to Jive Records at the age fifteen. There, she recorded an entire album. But the album never came out. Sullivan was eventually eliminated at the hands of the company. The singer maintained a relationship with Missy Elliott she produced a number of the tracks for her debut project, including the buzz single "Backstabbers" which was produced by Timbaland and written by Elliott.
